The Story

The debut volume of Impossible Toronto brings together Studio VAARO and Gabriel Fain to design a courtyard block on typical Toronto streets. On the Courtyard is a book about design but, more deeply, is offered as framework for conversation. Alongside detailed renderings and measured drawings, it includes a punch list of the regulatory, zoning, and policy conditions that currently stand in the way. Rather than a critique, this list is offered as a map: should any of this resonate, it points to the places where review and reform might begin.

Contributors: Alex Bozikovic, Brandon Donnelly, Kelly Alvarez Doran, Christoph Elsässer, Jonathan English, Krista Palen, Jonathon Brearley, Marc Ryan, Stephen Smith, and Graig Uens.
